Bare Ground/Ice Ban products have always had a reputation as one of the most effective deicing liquids available. Bare Ground Systems/NSC contracted with Anal co Laboratories, Inc. in Ogden. UT to determine the ice penetration performance in accordance with Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) Test Method SHRP 205.4 "Test Method for Ice Penetration of Liquid Deicing Chemicals".
In all cases Bare Ground/Ice Ban products outperformed sodium chloride (salt) by at least 100% and in some cases over a 60 minute time period salt was outperformed by 300%. Bare Ground/Ice Ban was also observed to undercut the ice column physically breaking the bond between the test apparatus and the ice column. Tins undercutting action translates into an ability to prevent snow and ice accumulation from bonding with pavement surfaces and creating the dreaded "black ice" conditions that are so dangerous to drivers.
